Celebrate New Year’s Eve with family and friends at the fireworks spectacular at Footscray Park on Saturday 31 December.
For the first time since 2019, the City of Maribyrnong’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will return following COVID related cancellations – this time taking place on the Eastern Lawn at Footscray Park.
Watch the sun go down and fireworks light up the sky nice and early at 9.30pm, ideal for families who want to avoid a late night and huge city crowds.
To begin the night, there will be a Welcome to Country along with a powerful performance from the Murrundaya Yepengna Dancers, directed by Amos Roach.
Then it’s the Bluey Live Interactive Experience! The Emmy® award-winning, much-loved blue heeler along with her sister, Bingo, will be part of our New Year’s Eve celebrations – for real life!
This will be followed by The Bamboos, a Melbourne nine piece ensemble recognised worldwide as the masters of reinventing soul and funk with modern song writing.
Turning up the noise will be Jebediah. After forming in the 90s, they produced six albums over 23 years, winning numerous awards. Prepare yourself, as Jebediah know how to captivate their audiences with an infectious and electrifying performance.
To close the evening’s stellar stage line-up, you’ll be blown away with the magic that is Queen Forever – The Australian Queen Tribute Show. One of the most powerful and dynamic live acts in music history will be recreated on stage with such brilliance and accuracy, you’ll think you’re seeing the real thing.
You will also be able to catch roving performances from Australia’s favourite bubble man Dr Hubble, and Ryn Hooligan’s Interdimensional Creatures. There will be carnival rides and games to keep the whole family entertained until the fireworks at 9.30pm.
Get the family together and pack a picnic or enjoy a snack from one of the food trucks on site. This is a single-use plastic free event, so bring a refillable bottle to make use of the drinking water provided on site, and the community is urged to bring re-useable containers to reduce the impact on the environment.
Although we know dogs are part of the family, the fireworks can give pooches a scare and we recommend that they stay safely at home.
Please note: This is an alcohol free event and we encourage travelling via public transport. Free shuttle buses will be operating between Footscray Train Station and Footscray Park (Eastern Lawn). Accessible parking is available on site via Maribyrnong Blvd.
